Dr. Keith Purcell
Owner, Veterinarian
Dr. Keith’s first experience in animal care came at the ripe age of 10. When one of his father’s beagles developed an eye infection, young Dr. Keith was given the responsibility of administering the local veterinarian’s treatment. At that moment, he discovered how satisfying it was to help an animal that couldn’t care for itself! For him, a career in veterinary medicine simply felt natural.
After earning his veterinary degree at the University of Georgia in 1984, Dr. Keith took an Associate position at a small animal practice in Warner Robbins, Georgia. Three years later, he decided to move his family back to his hometown of Savannah. He and his wife, Tammie, opened Westside Animal Hospital in November of 1987 and have been practicing high-quality, client-focused veterinary medicine here ever since.
Medically, Dr. Keith is fond of dermatology work for the continuous challenge it presents during every season of the year. He also enjoys orthopedic procedures and seeing a pet return to an active lifestyle because of his handiwork. Most of all, Dr. Keith enjoys having conversations with loving pet owners in the exam rooms; hearing about other animal lovers’ experiences with their pets is his favorite part of the day!
When he has free time away from the clinic, Dr. Keith enjoys gardening and landscaping around his home. He and Tammie live in Richmond Hill with their daughter, Kaitlyn, and a schnauzer named Sneakers. Sneakers comes to work with Dr. Keith every day, where he greets everyone with a loud bark and insists on being the center of attention at all times.
